Sustainable logistics with LOXX

With the extension of their logistics centre LOXX realised two significant environmental projects: a solar energy system on the warehouse roof and a rainwater retention tank system under the roadway surfaces.

On the roof space of 10,000m² there are 1,764 polycrystalline solar modules catching the sunlight. In total, the complete photovoltaic system has nominal power of 361.62 kWp and produces around 350,000 kWh of energy a year. Through the clean energy produced from the solar power system alone, LOXX was able to reduce its CO2 figure by around 220,000kg in 2009.

In addition to this, the warehouses have been fitted for ten years now with skylights and an automatic light-regulating system that brings with it further energy and CO2 reductions.

Using a sophisticated system, LOXX collects rainwater from 27,500m2 of its total site of 38,000m2 in order to filter it and then carefully feed it into the River Emscher. Through this environmental project LOXX is supporting the near-natural remodelling of the Emscher system that has been promoted by the Emscher Federation since the 1990s. In 2009, the Federation awarded LOXX its ‘Watermark’ for its outstanding contribution in this area.

Thanks to these environmental projects and other factors LOXX has been certified to DIN EN ISO 14001 since October 2008.
